A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Ahasfa Abdullahi, to five months imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle.
The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5, 000 fine and advised him to be of good behaviour.
Abdullahi, who resides at Kado-Kurchi Gwarimpa, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of theft.
The convict had admitted committing the offence and begged the court to temper justice with mercy as he did not know what came over him.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, had told the court that one Abdullahi Fulani, of Kado Life Camp, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, on June 15.
She said on that same date, the convict stole the complainant’s Pajab motorcycle, valued at N120, 000 from his resident.
Ukagha said during police investigation, he confessed committing the crime, begged for forgiveness and the motorcycle was recovered.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
