Liverpool’s Mo Salah is now just behind Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or winner, according to bookmakers across the country.
They’ve installed the Egyptian forward as the second favourite for the award, cutting his odds from 11/1 into just 7/4.
Following his star-studded performance against Roma last night, he’s received a whopping 78% of bets for the individual award, and sent his odds tumbling.
Ronaldo is still 13/8 favourite to scoop the trophy come December, Salah is second at 7/4, now in front Lionel Messi who is drifting to 4/1.
Brazil’s Neymar comes next at 14/1, followed by Belgium’s Kevin de Bruyne at the same price.
The Egyptian star has also been backed for top scorer at the World Cup, attracting 86% of bets for the Golden Boot.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Mo Salah has had a quite phenomenal season, but last night was the icing on the cake.
“Given that the Ballon D’Or betting is over the course of the calendar year rather than a season, Messi will need a phenomenal World Cup to get involved.
“In our book, Salah should be favourite and represents huge value still.”
