Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, is a Nigerian singer and rapper.
Rema signed a record deal with Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019.
With his nomination for the Headies Next Rated Artist category, which he snatched up, the singer is considered one of the fastest rising artists in the Nigerian music scene.
While Rema became increasingly popular in Nigeria, a boost to his career experience in the international music scene came from a time when his 2019 song Iron Man found its way onto the summer playlist of former US President Barack Obama.
Born on May 1, Divine Ikubor comes from a Christian family in Benin City, Edo State, where he grew up as a singer and rapper during his school days. He completed his primary and secondary education in Edo State.
In 2018 Rema sent a viral freestyle on D’Prince’s “Gucci Gang” track. The entry caught the attention of D’Prince, who flew him to Lagos to offer him a record deal.
Rema signed a record deal with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019.
He released his debut EP of the same name Rema in 2019, culminating in the number one position at Apple Music Nigeria.
Having described his music as a new school with an alternative vibe, Rema has successfully secured a place in the hearts of his fans both locally and internationally.
On October 19, 2019, Rema won the next rating and was nominated for the audience vote at the 13th edition of The Headies.
On January 12, 2020, he received the Soundcity MVP for Best New Artist. On 15 June 2020 Rema was nominated for Best Viewers Choice: International Act on the 2020 BET Awards.
He was nominated for the awards alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid; they were the only Nigerian artists nominated for the 2020 BET Awards.
