Ladies, here are 10 things yo should know about breast cancer

Here is a list of 10 things you probably didn’t know about breast cancer but should, according to Dr. Olga Ivanov, medical director of the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Florida Hospital Celebration Health.

1. Secondhand smoke may increase your risk – A Mexican study of 500 women shows secondhand smoke increases breast cancer risk three times.

2. African-American women are more likely to die from the disease – According to the American Cancer Society, African-American women under the age of 45 are more likely to be diagnosed and are more likely to die from it. Experts are not sure why but these women should be vigilant about screenings.

3. Most breast cancer develops without a family history- 1 of 8 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a family history of the disease.

4. Your father’s genes can factor into your breast cancer risk – Check your father’s side of the family for breast cancer (not just your mom’s). Genetics from both parents play a role when it comes to breast cancer.
