How will Liverpool FC line up against Roma?

Three writers give their verdict on who Jurgen Klopp should select for the Champions League semi-final second leg clash

I can’t see any selection issues for Jurgen Klopp ahead of this second leg at the Stadio Olimpico.

Gini Wijnaldum didn’t start the first game at Anfield but he will have a big role to play against Roma following Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s season-ending knee injury.

Klopp only has three fit senior midfielders in Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and James Milner. The front three pick themselves and the hope is they will carry on where they left off in the first leg.

Dejan Lovren and Andy Robertson had a breather at the weekend and should be fresh. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk should complete the back four.

My team (4-3-3): Karius; Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson; Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

The biggest game of Liverpool’s season.

Indeed, the biggest game of any Liverpool season during the last decade.

So, an important team selection for Jurgen Klopp, with head-scratchers, posers, headaches and all the other cliches we roll out when he has a decision to make.

But let’s be honest here.

There are no decisions to be made. Whether it’s me, you, Klopp or even Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco – actually, maybe not him – the Liverpool team will be exactly the same.

They don’t really have any other realistic choice.

If everybody who we believe will be available is available – meaning Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson have shaken off the knocks suffered against Stoke City – the team picks itself.

My team (4-3-3): Karius; Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson; Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

I hate to say it, but I agree with Ian.

This might be Liverpool’s biggest game in a decade, but it’s the most boring team selector of the season.

Why? Because the team practically picks itself.

Apart form any last minute injuries, you know full well who lines-up in defence, midfield and attack.

Now they just have to go out and do the business.

My team (4-3-3): Karius; Alexander-Arnold, van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson; Henderson, Milner, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
