Arsenal star Hector Bellerin could be on his way out of the club in the coming transfer window as Spanish publication Sport have revealed that Chelsea are keeping tabs on the right-back.
The 23-year-old Gunner, along with a number of his team-mates, has endured an inconsistent campaign that will end with the North Londoners outside the Premier League’s top four for the second consecutive season.
And whilst they may receive salvation in the form of a Europa League win, which would return them to the Champions League next term, that would first require them to overturn Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final on Thursday night.
The La Liga outfit hold a slight advantage having secured an away goal in the 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium last week and have a defence that has conceded just four in the league at home in 2017-18.
Regardless of their fate in that competition, it seems that Bellerin could be on his way after failing to kick on at Arsenal under the management of Arsene Wenger.
A hot prospect just a few years ago, questions remain over the Spain international’s defensive discipline and sometimes wayward final ball.
However, he is still relatively young and a change of scenery could serve to reignite his career.
Chelsea would appear to be a good fit for Bellerin; the Blues tend to play with wing-backs, which would alleviate some of his responsibility going back towards his own goal and free him up to raid forwards down the flank.
Victor Moses has struggled to recapture the form that saw him play a crucial role in sealing the Premier League title last term, whilst understudy Davide Zappacosta has not had an extended run in the team to demonstrate his capabilities.
Arsenal are value Bellerin at around €40 million (£35.2 million) according to the report, a reasonable price for a player of his age and potential in today’s market.
Chelsea may have to move quickly if they are to hold off interest from fellow European heavyweights Manchester United and Juventus.
