Arsenal climbs to 9th place with victory in Southampton

Arsenal climbed to 9th place in the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Southampton on Thursday night.

Edward Nketiah‘s goal in the 20th minute gave the visitors an early lead at St Mary’s. And Joseph Willock secured the three points in the 87th minute after Jack Stephens was sent off the field.

With 43 points, the Gunners are now one point behind the eighth-placed Sheffield United and eight points behind Chelsea for the final Champions League spot.

The defeat keeps Southampton in 14th place with 37 points, 10 points ahead of the relegation zone.

Mikel Arteta’s men face Sheffield United in an FA Cup quarter-final on Sunday (live at 8am ET on ESPN and ESPN Deportes), while the Saints travel to Watford for a Premier League match on the same day.
