The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has intercepted a consignment containing seven pouches of cannabis concealed in a duvet cover that arrived in Lagos from Bangkok, Thailand.
In a statement on Tuesday, the agency said the parcel was addressed to a recipient in Lagos, but details of the sender and receiver have been withheld pending investigations by security agencies.
NIPOST noted that the seizure highlights its commitment to transforming the postal system into a secure and reliable channel of communication and commerce. The agency said the interception demonstrates its determination to protect the public from illicit substances and preserve the integrity of its operations.
“The matter has been referred to the relevant security agencies for further action,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its zero tolerance for the use of its network for illegal activities, NIPOST pledged to continue safeguarding its operations in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
