Amusan’s Bold Template to Tackle Insecurity in Ogun

By Habib Adedeji

Insecurity has become one of the gravest challenges confronting Nigeria today. From the North West to the North East, and even in the South East, communities are reeling under the weight of banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and violent clashes. While the South West is relatively calmer, it has not been spared. In fact, Ogun State—strategically positioned as a gateway state bordering the Republic of Benin—has had its share of troubling security incidents, particularly in border towns and rural areas.

For many families, the fear of attacks by criminal herdsmen, highway robbers, cultists, ritualists and marauding gangs is still fresh. The question before us is simple: who has the ideas, courage, and capacity to secure Ogun’s future?

Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan, a man with deep experience in both the private and public sectors, believes the time to act decisively is now. His blueprint for tackling insecurity is bold, pragmatic, and achievable. In fact, it represents the kind of innovative leadership Ogun desperately needs as we look ahead to 2027.

Technology at the Heart of Security

At the centre of Amusan’s security agenda is a massive investment in technology. He proposes deploying drones and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras across border towns, major highways, and bridges in Ogun. Imagine a real-time surveillance system monitoring every key entry and exit point, every dark corridor where criminals hide, and every vulnerable rural community. This is not fantasy—it is the future Amusan envisions.

Crucially, this technology will not exist in isolation. To make it effective, Amusan plans to establish a Central Coordinating Security Control Room in Abeokuta, the state capital. This command hub, operational round the clock, will ensure that threats are detected early, tracked with precision, and neutralized swiftly. Security, in his model, is proactive, not reactive.

Strengthening Human Presence

While technology provides eyes in the sky, boots on the ground remain indispensable. Amusan’s plan includes the recruitment of Forest Guards, specially trained and equipped to patrol flashpoints across Ogun’s vast terrain. These Guards will complement federal security personnel while focusing on difficult-to-reach communities that often feel abandoned.

Armed with motorcycles, communication devices, and modern security tools, the Forest Guards will restore confidence in local communities, particularly those living near forests and farmlands who often bear the brunt of insecurity.

Synergy and Collaboration

One of the failings of Nigeria’s security architecture has always been the lack of synergy among key players. Agencies often work at cross purposes, while community leaders are left out of critical decision-making. Amusan intends to change that.

His template emphasizes building a sustainable partnership among the state government, the military, paramilitary organizations, and, importantly, traditional, religious, and community leaders. Every stakeholder must operate from the same page. Security is not just the responsibility of the police or the army; it is a collective task. By uniting all forces, Amusan aims to create a network of vigilance and trust across Ogun.

Why Amusan Stands Out

In the crowded field of aspirants vying for the Oke Mosan Government House in 2027, Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan stands out for one simple reason: he understands that security is the foundation upon which prosperity rests.

A man who has excelled in both the private and public sectors, Amusan brings to the table a wealth of experience in mobilizing human and material resources to achieve set goals. He knows that Ogun cannot attract investors, create jobs, or sustain growth unless the state is safe.

Where others pay lip service, he offers concrete, well-thought-out solutions. Where others recycle old promises, he introduces innovative ideas that blend technology with grassroots engagement.

The Choice Before Us

As 2027 draws closer, the people of Ogun must ask themselves a critical question: do we want the future of our state in the hands of politicians who offer business-as-usual, or do we want a leader bold enough to confront insecurity with fresh ideas and unwavering resolve?

The answer is clear. Hon. Jelili Kayode Amusan is not just another politician seeking power; he is a visionary with a tested record and a practical plan. His template for tackling insecurity is exactly what Ogun needs to protect its people, unleash its economic potential, and position itself as a model for the South West and beyond.

Ogun State deserves to be known not for its vulnerabilities, but for its resilience and progress. With Amusan at the helm, the state can finally move from fear to confidence, from vulnerability to security, and from uncertainty to prosperity.

The choice is ours to make. For a safe, secure, and prosperous Ogun, Amusan is the man.
