The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force have apprehended at least 20 suspects in connection with the hacking of the 2025 Computer-Based Test (CBT) examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The suspects are believed to be part of a larger syndicate comprising over 100 individuals who specialize in hacking examination bodies’ computer servers, including JAMB and the National Examinations Council (NECO).
According to security sources, the suspects have confessed to sabotaging the CBT system to discredit JAMB and discourage students from using CBT for future examinations.
One suspect revealed that the syndicate would install malicious software on examination body hardware, allowing them to remotely hack JAMB servers at targeted CBT centers.
The suspects hail from various states, including Lagos, Edo, Anambra, Kano, and Delta.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s activities.
