Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered a relaxation of the 24-hour curfew in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun to a 17-hour restriction, following recent violent communal clashes in the area.
With the new directive, the curfew will now run from 2 PM to 7 AM daily, starting Friday, March 28, 2025, until further notice. The decision aims to ease the hardship faced by residents while ensuring security remains intact.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the adjustment in a statement on Friday, noting that the crisis initially began as a boundary dispute between Ifon and Ilobu before escalating to Erin Osun.
In response, the state government had imposed stricter movement restrictions, following reports of casualties and widespread property destruction.
Governor Adeleke commended the temporary cessation of violence but expressed concern over a recent killing, for which police have made an arrest. He warned that anyone found instigating further violence will face the full weight of the law.
Security forces will continue 24-hour surveillance to prevent further unrest, while the state emergency agency has been directed to ramp up aid efforts for displaced residents.
The government urges all parties to embrace peace as efforts continue to restore stability in the affected communities.
