The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) across the state’s 23 councils to submit reports detailing their activities over the past two years.
The directive, issued by Dame Dr. Itong Awani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government Affairs, has reportedly unsettled the HLGAs due to its urgency and perceived political implications.
This move follows the Supreme Court’s ruling that nullified the 2024 local government elections, leading to the takeover of council administration by HLGAs under the directive of suspended Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
In the letter, the government requested details on staff strength, revenue sources, council projects, and key achievements. The reports are to be submitted by Wednesday, March 26, 2025, for further action by the state government.
