Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar Explores Airbus Investment Opportunities in Nigeria

As part of efforts to strengthen international partnerships, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, recently visited the Airbus Operations Facility in Getafe, Madrid Airbus’ largest industrial hub in Spain.

During the visit, Tuggar engaged in high-level discussions with key Airbus executives, including Juan Sell, Head of Public Affairs in Spain, and Luis Hernanperez Fernandez, Vice President and Head of Sales for Africa.

Furthermore, talks centered on potential investments in Nigeria’s aviation and defense sectors, with a focus on localized production and workforce development.

The minister urged Airbus to go beyond aircraft sales by establishing a maintenance hub in Nigeria, citing the country’s strategic role as a regional security hub in Africa.

He also emphasized the potential for Airbus to train and empower local youth, with long-term prospects of aircraft assembly and manufacturing in Nigeria.

Airbus representatives presented their aircraft offerings tailored to Nigeria’s transport, humanitarian, and defense needs, particularly highlighting the C295 a versatile multi-purpose aircraft.

The visit concluded with a tour of Airbus’ maintenance facilities, giving the minister a firsthand look at the company’s operational capabilities.

Nigeria and Spain Sign MoU to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

In a related development, Nigeria and Spain have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance diplomatic and economic collaboration. The agreement, signed by Minister Tuggar and his Spanish counterpart, José Albares, establishes a framework for political consultations and cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.
