CBN Governor Cardoso Reaffirms Commitment To Intellectual Engagement And Economic Stability

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, has reiterated the bank’s dedication to fostering intellectual discourse and policy-driven solutions.

Speaking in Abuja while hosting a delegation from the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) as part of their Africa Trek, Cardoso emphasized the importance of knowledge exchange and collaboration in strengthening Nigeria’s financial system.

The delegation included 50 scholars from 19 countries, representing institutions such as HKS, Harvard Business School, MIT, and Stanford University. Cardoso, an HKS alumnus and the first African elected to its global Alumni Board of Directors, underscored the value of such engagements in shaping economic policies and fostering long-term partnerships.

“As we reset the Bank, we are committed to being a hub for thought leadership. The exposure you gain from institutions like Harvard is invaluable, and we see this as an opportunity to build long-term alliances,” he said.

Addressing Nigeria’s economic outlook, Cardoso acknowledged existing challenges but pointed to progress in stabilizing the foreign exchange market and curbing inflation. He also cited recent visits from top executives of JP Morgan, Citi Bank, and the IMF as signs of renewed investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

“These are individuals who base their decisions on data and trends, not sentiment. Their interest reaffirms that we are on the right path,” he added.

HKSAAN President Ms. Adaora Ndukwe and HKS Nigeria Trek Delegation Lead Ms. Sheffy Kolade thanked the CBN for its hospitality, emphasizing the importance of such interactions in shaping global economic perspectives.
