Rivers HoS Resigns As Ibas Appoints New SSG

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice-Admiral (rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, has announced the resignation of the Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, describing the development as unfortunate.

Ibas commended Nwaeke for his contributions during his tenure and wished him success in his future endeavors. Dr. Iyingi Brown, Permanent Secretary (Welfare) in the Office of the Head of Service, has been appointed in an acting capacity pending the selection of a new HoS.

Additionally, Ibas announced the appointment of Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG). He highlighted Worika’s extensive experience in academia, international law, and policy advisory roles, stating that his expertise makes him well-suited to support the administration in fulfilling President Tinubu’s mandate.

“Prof. Worika’s distinguished career in academia, legal practice, and policy advisory positions uniquely qualifies him for this role. His appointment takes immediate effect,” Ibas said.

Worika, a native of Okrika, Rivers State, is an internationally recognized legal scholar with a Ph.D. in International Environmental and Comparative Petroleum Law & Policy from the University of Dundee, UK. He has held key academic and administrative positions, including as Director of the Centre for Advanced Law Research at Rivers State University and Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Port Harcourt.

Ibas reaffirmed his commitment to neutrality, peace, and stability in Rivers State, emphasizing that Worika’s appointment aligns with efforts to harness the state’s human capital for effective governance.
