The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intercepted a significant cache of live ammunition ingeniously concealed in jerrycans filled with palm oil. A suspect linked to the smuggling, Nuhu Aminu, a 32-year-old man from Katsina State, was arrested at the Nyanya bus terminal.
According to a statement by the FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the breakthrough was achieved through the efforts of operatives from the Nyanya Division in collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). Upon searching Aminu’s consignment, officers discovered 488 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition hidden inside two 25-litre jerrycans.
During interrogation, Aminu confessed that he was recruited by Yakubu Kachalla from Funtua, Katsina State, and was paid ₦100,000 to transport the illegal ammunition from an unidentified contact in Nasarawa State to Katsina.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating arms smuggling and dismantling criminal networks. Investigations are ongoing to track down other individuals involved in the operation. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Isyaku Sharu, urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
