Greenland’s caretaker government has announced it will not meet with a high-level U.S. delegation set to visit later this week, citing concerns over U.S. intentions regarding the territory.
Prime Minister Múte Egede shared the decision in a Facebook post on Monday, emphasizing that the visit could not be considered purely private.
The delegation, led by Usha Vance, wife of U.S. Vice President JD Vance, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, is scheduled to arrive in Greenland on Thursday. Their visit comes amid lingering concerns following former President Donald Trump’s interest in acquiring Greenland for its strategic minerals and security significance.
Greenlanders had previously protested Trump’s proposal, and Denmark has reaffirmed that any decisions about Greenland’s future must be made by its people. Egede’s government appears to be maintaining that stance by refusing official engagement with the visiting U.S. officials.
