Adesiyan Calls For State of Emergency In Osun Over Rising Instability

Former Minister of Police Affairs, Oyewale Adesiyan, has urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Osun State, citing a breakdown of law and order.

In a statement issued in Osogbo, Adesiyan referenced Section 305 of the Nigerian Constitution to justify his call, pointing to the escalating political and security crises in the state.

He accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of disregarding court rulings, particularly in the local government dispute, which he claimed had resulted in violence and loss of lives, including that of reinstated Irewole Local Government Chairman, Remi Abass.

“With political instability worsening and an incompetent governor unable to manage the fragile situation, invoking constitutional measures is necessary to restore peace,” Adesiyan stated.

He further lamented the casualties from both the council crisis and recent communal clashes, emphasizing the need for urgent intervention to prevent further loss of lives and displacement of residents.
