Osun NULGE, Factional Group Clash Over Local Government Workers’ Resumption

A crisis has erupted within the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) as it faces off against a faction known as the Association of Concerned Local Government Staff over the resumption of workers across the state’s council secretariats.

The faction reportedly directed local government staff to return to work immediately, defying an ongoing strike directive from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), which has kept workers off duty since February 17, 2025. However, NULGE has urged its members to ignore the order.

Dr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, NULGE’s Chairman, dismissed the faction as illegitimate, accusing it of being politically motivated to cause unrest among workers.

Meanwhile, the faction’s coordinator, Adedayo Adekunle, criticized the prolonged closure of council secretariats, calling it illegal and harmful to public services, including maternity centers.

The dispute is linked to the return of local government chairmen and councillors elected in 2022, who resumed office following a favorable Court of Appeal ruling a move opposed by the state government.
