The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, Oyo State, to facilitate extensive upgrade works aimed at enhancing its infrastructure and operational standards.
In a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah on Sunday, FAAN confirmed that the Federal Government approved the closure to allow critical improvements at the facility.
Following this decision, the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency has shut the runway and suspended all airport operations in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.
The upgrade is part of the Oyo State Government’s initiative to transform the airport into an international aviation hub. FAAN reassured stakeholders and passengers that the closure aligns with aviation safety standards and appealed for cooperation throughout the process.
