
Veteran Nollywood actress Nkechi Nweje has passed away after a brief illness, leaving the Nigerian film industry in mourning.
Her death was confirmed on Saturday by popular movie producer Stanley Ajemba, known as Stanley Ontop, who took to Instagram to express his grief.
Describing her as a vibrant actress and a dear friend, Ajemba recalled their last conversation, where she offered him words of advice.
“Nollywood in tears as we lost one of our vibrant Nollywood actresses, @nkechi.nweje, after a brief illness,” Ajemba wrote. “Rest in peace, ma’am. My best friend, she always called me on the phone, advising me.”
Veteran actress Rita Edochie also paid tribute by sharing a candlelight image on Instagram, captioning it, “This world is really not our home.”
Actor Asa Ikuku joined in mourning, writing, “Rest in peace, Mummy Nkechi Nweje TV (Nwanyi Onitsha). You were indeed a blessing to us, but God knows best. We will miss you greatly, legend.”
Nkechi Nweje, widely celebrated for her compelling performances in motherly roles, leaves behind a lasting legacy in Nollywood. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Azuibuike Nweje, and six children.
