The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice-Admiral Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas (rtd), has reaffirmed his commitment to completing the ongoing reconstruction of the State House of Assembly Complex.
During an inspection visit to the project site on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, on Saturday, Ibas urged the contractor, Monier Construction Company (MCC) Ltd, to accelerate work and deliver the project within the agreed timeline. He stressed that restoring full legislative activities in the state was a key part of his mandate.
Accompanied by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, Ibas was briefed on the progress of the facility, which includes 34 offices in a two-story building, an elevator, a gallery, meeting rooms, and a conference hall.
Addressing the media, Ibas noted that in his first two days in office, he identified a missing pillar in the state’s governance structure the legislature and vowed to ensure that the Assembly Complex was ready within six months.
“For the government to function effectively, the legislature must have a place to operate from. I have been briefed that the state has fulfilled its financial obligations, so the responsibility now lies with the contractors to deliver as scheduled,” he stated.
He also reaffirmed his primary role as Sole Administrator to maintain law and order and emphasized that a fully functional legislative arm was essential for stability and governance in Rivers State.
