Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reimposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Ifon and Ilobu communities following a fresh outbreak of violence over a disputed land.
The latest crisis reportedly resulted in one fatality, as gunmen invaded Ilobu late Thursday night, shooting at residents and setting houses ablaze.
Governor Adeleke had previously imposed curfews to curb the communal clashes, with the last one lifted in early March 2025 during Ramadan. However, due to the renewed violence, the government has extended the curfew from 6 PM to 6 AM, effective Friday, March 21, 2025, until further notice.
In a statement, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the governor expressed deep dissatisfaction over the resurgence of hostilities.
“The initial 10 PM to 4 AM curfew has now been extended to 6 PM to 6 AM. Additionally, a joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Police, and Civil Defence will maintain 24-hour surveillance to prevent further violence,” the statement read.
As part of conflict resolution efforts, Governor Adeleke has summoned a stakeholders’ meeting on Saturday, March 22, 2025. The meeting will include Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, and other key community leaders.
He further warned that anyone found instigating or fueling the crisis would face severe consequences.
