Oyebanji Flags Off Farm Dormitories To Boost Agriculture, Create Jobs For Youths

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has launched the construction of dormitories in farm settlements across the state as part of efforts to achieve food security and make agriculture more appealing to young people.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony for the Renewed Hope Dormitory in Eporo Ekiti, Emure Local Government Area, the governor represented by his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye emphasized that the initiative would enhance food production, stabilize food prices, and create employment for youths who previously viewed farming as unprofitable.

Oyebanji assured that similar projects would be replicated in other farm settlements, including Oke Ako, Aramomo, and Ikere.

He revealed that Ekiti’s youth farmers earned over ₦200 million in the last farming season, a testament to the impact of the cluster farming initiative.

The dormitories, which will be equipped with modern facilities, are designed to allow farmers to reside fully within the settlements, increasing productivity.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Ebenezer Boluwade, described the initiative as a game-changer that will reignite interest in farming.

According to the project coordinator, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Joluwe, Ekiti is serving as a pilot state for the initiative, further strengthening collaboration between the state and federal government.

She noted that turning previously unsafe areas into farm settlements has also helped curb security threats such as kidnappings.

Governor Oyebanji reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to positioning Ekiti as a food production hub, encouraging youths to embrace farming as a profitable and sustainable venture.
