
Police operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have rescued Sambo Umar Labibo, a Burkina Faso national, from a notorious kidnap syndicate operating within the Durumi IDP Camp.
The kidnappers had demanded a ₦15 million ransom, forcing the victim to call an associate to secure the payment.
According to a statement by FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, operatives from the Durumi Division launched a swift operation after receiving an urgent report on March 18, 2025.
The police, working closely with the victim’s associate, set a trap at the ransom collection point, where the suspects were swiftly apprehended. The arrested individuals include: Ibrahim Umar, Hamza Buba, Muktar Mohammed, Masaud Abdullahi
Moses Idoko – identified as the gang’s medical director, responsible for treating both victims and kidnappers.
Following their arrest, the suspects led police to their hideout in the Durumi IDP Camp, where Labibo was rescued unharmed. Efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing gang members.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all residents, including foreigners.
