
The Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department (FEMD) has confirmed that the death toll from the tragic accident near Karu Bridge along the Abuja-Keffi expressway has risen to 10.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday evening, involved a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-laden truck and multiple vehicles, resulting in a devastating fire.
FEMD Acting Director General, Abdulrahman Mohammed, provided an update on Thursday, revealing that eight victims initially died, including four who were burned beyond recognition. Two more fatalities were recorded later, bringing the total to 10.
Earlier, the FCT Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, had reported six deaths and 14 burnt vehicles.
Mohammed also disclosed that 30 injured victims were receiving treatment across hospitals in the FCT, including Karu General Hospital, Customs Hospital, National Hospital, and Aso Clinic. Some have been referred to Gwagwalada Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre Keffi, and Cedarcrest Hospital for further care.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation as emergency response efforts remain ongoing.
