The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed claims from a viral video allegedly showing uniformed officers scooping fuel from an overturned petrol tanker, stating that the individuals in the footage are not Nigerian police personnel.
In a statement on Tuesday, Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi clarified that the uniformed individuals in the video were from a neighboring francophone country, not Nigeria.
“The viral video circulating in the media was released to discredit the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi said.
“The individuals seen in the footage are not Nigerian officers but personnel from another country whose camouflage uniforms resemble those of the NPF. They were also speaking in French, not English or any Nigerian language.”
He condemned the spread of false and misleading content, warning that such misinformation damages the reputation of the force and has negative consequences for the country.
Adejobi reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professionalism, discipline, and public safety, urging citizens to verify information before sharing it to prevent the spread of disinformation.
