An explosion has struck the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State, sparking a massive fire along the key oil transportation route.
The cause of the explosion remains unclear, but authorities are investigating whether it resulted from sabotage or an operational failure.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions, with militant groups recently threatening attacks on oil facilities over the Federal Government’s decision to withhold Rivers State’s allocation due to an ongoing political crisis.
The pipeline, a critical export route for crude oil to the Bonny Terminal, reportedly went up in flames late Monday night.
Emergency response teams are yet to determine the extent of damage or whether there are casualties.
Officials are expected to provide further updates as investigations continue.
