The African Development Bank (AfDB) and IITA–CGIAR have reaffirmed their commitment to transforming Africa’s agriculture by signing a €5 million German grant agreement in Abuja.
The funding will support Phase 2 of the Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (TAAT) program, aimed at scaling innovative agricultural solutions across the continent.
Building on the achievements of TAAT Phase 1, the second phase focuses on accelerating the adoption of improved crop varieties, mechanization, digital advisory services, and sustainable farming practices.
By targeting key value chains such as maize, cassava, rice, wheat, soybean, and livestock, TAAT 2 is helping smallholder farmers boost productivity, increase incomes, and reduce Africa’s dependence on food imports.
A crucial component of TAAT Phase 2 is the ENABLE-TAAT initiative, which is empowering young agripreneurs with modern farming skills, financial support, and business development opportunities.
Moreso, by equipping Africa’s youth with the necessary tools, the program is fostering job creation and driving agricultural innovation.
The renewed partnership between AfDB and IITA–CGIAR underscores the shared vision of leveraging technology and investment to strengthen food security and economic growth across Africa.
