Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has voiced support for Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who claimed to have received threats after her viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement on X on Sunday, Atiku commended Raye’s bravery, calling her a symbol of a new generation of politically engaged women committed to advocacy and democracy.
“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition,” he wrote.
Comparing her to historic activists like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, and Margaret Ekpo, Atiku called for support rather than hostility towards Raye, describing her as a beacon of hope for Nigerian youth.
Raye recently went viral after a TikTok video in which she criticized Tinubu’s leadership and lamented Nigeria’s economic woes. She later alleged that NYSC officials pressured her to remove the video. Authorities have yet to respond to her claims.
