Pope Francis’ condition is steadily improving, but he still requires ongoing medical care at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, the Vatican announced Saturday.
The 88-year-old pontiff, who marked one month in the hospital on Friday, remains under treatment for respiratory issues that had previously put his life at risk.
While his doctors report stability and gradual recovery, the Vatican clarified that he is not yet ready for discharge.
Francis continues to undergo motor and respiratory physiotherapy, along with high-flow oxygen therapy to reduce reliance on non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Meanwhile, messages of support continue pouring in from around the world. Italy’s postal service reported a surge in mail addressed to the pope, reflecting the global outpouring of affection. Among the well-wishers, his favorite football team, Buenos Aires’ San Lorenzo, sent a video message, joined by sports stars like Neymar and Ciro Ferrara.
Despite his hospitalization, the Vatican has not indicated when Francis might be released, but his slow and steady recovery remains a hopeful sign.
