Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has signed an Executive Order mandating the relocation of the Coal Camp spare parts and allied trades markets, along with related commercial activities, to the newly designated Enugu International Motor Spare Parts and Allied Trades Park.
The new site spans Udi and Ezeagu Local Government Areas along the Enugu-Onitsha Road.
Speaking at the signing ceremony on Friday, attended by Attorney General Dr. Kingsley Udeh and leaders of the spare parts dealers, Governor Mbah emphasized that the new market was purpose-built to international standards, with essential infrastructure such as a fire service, clinic, truck park, and residential areas for traders.
President of the Enugu Motor Spare Parts Dealers Association, Chief Michael Nomeh, lauded the governor for fulfilling a decades-old promise, noting that past administrations had failed to relocate traders to a permanent, well-organized site.
Dr. Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, described the move as a strategic economic initiative.
He highlighted that the location, positioned along a major trade corridor, would enhance commerce and contribute to the state’s goal of a $30 billion GDP economy.
The new trade hub aims to provide a modern, self-sufficient commercial and industrial ecosystem, integrating warehouses, workshops, smart schools, healthcare centers, and essential utilities.
