Kano Strengthens Ties With China, Increased Investment

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening economic ties with China, encouraging Chinese investors to capitalize on Kano’s business-friendly environment.

He highlighted the state’s strategic advantages, including access to raw materials, a prime location, and a vast consumer market, making it an attractive destination for foreign investment .

Yusuf acknowledged China’s significant role in Nigeria’s development, particularly in trade, infrastructure, and industrialization.

The bilateral trade between China and Nigeria reached $22.6 billion in 2023, with Kano benefiting greatly from this relationship.

Moreso, Chinese companies have played a crucial role in Kano’s infrastructural development, handling about 55% of ongoing projects, including the construction of five major flyovers.

The governor expressed gratitude for China’s contributions and assured continued cooperation.

He revealed plans to unveil a five-year investment strategy to attract more Chinese investors, offering attractive incentives to retain them in Kano.

Beyond economic ties, Yusuf emphasized the importance of educational partnerships, commending China for sponsoring Kano students to study in Chinese universities.

He called for greater collaboration in education, skills development, and knowledge exchange.

Chinese Ambassador Dunhai Yu praised Kano’s rich history and cultural significance, highlighting the state’s welcoming environment for Chinese businesses.

He disclosed plans to facilitate investment from Shandong Province into Kano’s agricultural sector, irrigation systems, and manufacturing industry.

Furthermore, Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts, particularly in renewable energy and electric vehicle manufacturing.
