Edo Governor Orders Probe Into PSR Operations After Child’s Tragic Death

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic loss of a young child in Benin City, following an incident involving members of the Public Safety Response (PSR) Team.

A devastating incident occurred in Benin City yesterday, leaving a two-year-old girl dead and a community outraged.

The fatal accident, which took place near Ring Road, was allegedly caused by members of the Edo State Public Safety Response Team (PSR).

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene, stating that PSR enforcers attempted to seize control of a moving commercial bus, resulting in the driver losing control.

The bus veered off the road and crashed into a roadside POS kiosk, where the young girl and her mother were standing. The child was tragically killed on impact.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for immediate action from the state government.

Citizens are demanding the disbandment of the PSR unit, citing its aggressive tactics and lack of proper training.

The Edo State Government and police have yet to issue an official statement, further fueling public anger.

Responding to this, Okpebholo described the event as “deeply painful and devastating” and extended his condolences to the grieving family.

He has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident, ensuring that anyone found responsible will be held accountable.

The governor also announced a comprehensive review of the PSR Team’s structure and operations to address growing concerns and ensure that all government activities reflect professionalism, fairness, and respect for human dignity.
