Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has announced that young farmers participating in the state’s farming scheme earned over N200 million last year from selling their produce. This achievement is part of the state’s efforts to improve food security through infrastructure development, aiming to turn Ekiti into an agricultural hub in Nigeria.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the government has successfully transformed agriculture into a profitable business venture. The N200 million earned by the young farmers came from off-takers, big processing plants, and the state government, which purchased the produce for storage.
The program’s success has encouraged more young farmers to participate, with over 2,000 expressing interest in cluster farming this year. The state aims to achieve food surplus, empower youths, create economic opportunities, and drive industrialization through agriculture.
To support these goals, Governor Oyebanji promised to introduce middle-level market hubs for efficient food production, processing, and supply. The government will also provide infrastructure and collaborate with partners to develop the agricultural sector.
Origin Tech Group, led by Executive Chairman Mr. Joseph Samuel, has expressed interest in partnering with Ekiti State to develop its agricultural sector. The partnership aims to generate resources, achieve food security, and promote sustainable development and economic growth.
