RSIEC Chairman Faces Arrest As Rivers Assembly Issues Warrant

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a warrant of arrest for Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), after he failed to appear before the lawmakers despite a 72-hour ultimatum.

The Assembly initially gave Enebeli a 48-hour ultimatum to appear and answer questions about the annulled October 2024 local government elections.

However, he didn’t show up, and instead, challenged the Assembly’s resolutions in court.

Enebeli had argued that the 48-hour ultimatum contradicted the principles of fair hearing enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.

The Assembly later extended the ultimatum to 72 hours, but Enebeli still didn’t appear, leading to the issuance of the arrest warrant.

Interestingly, the RSIEC Chairman had scheduled a fresh local government poll for August 9, 2025, following a Supreme Court verdict that annulled the previous election.
