
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of esteemed legal scholar, Professor Kharisu Sufiyanu Chukkol, who died on Sunday evening in Abuja at the age of 79.
In a statement, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the late professor’s family, students, and mentees, recognizing his immense contributions to legal education in Nigeria.
Professor Chukkol dedicated his career to the advancement of law at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and his influence shaped the careers of numerous legal professionals, including serving justices of the Supreme Court.
The President particularly lauded Professor Chukkol’s scholarly contributions, noting that his 1988 book, Law of Crimes in Nigeria, remains a foundational reference for legal practitioners and students.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the late professor’s lasting legacy through his children, including Abdulkarim Chukkol, the immediate past Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
President Tinubu urged the bereaved family and the wider legal community to take comfort in Professor Chukkol’s remarkable achievements and the lasting impact of his work.
