Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump’s threat of military action, describing it as “bullying tactics”.
Khamenei’s remarks came a day after Trump warned Iran that it would face military action if it refused to negotiate a new nuclear deal.
Khamenei accused the US and other Western powers of using “bullying” tactics to force Iran into negotiations. “Their negotiations are not aimed at solving problems, they aim at domination,” he said.
Khamenei also criticized the three European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal – Britain, France, and Germany – for not fulfilling their commitments under the agreement.
The tensions between Iran and the US have escalated since Trump’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018.
Iran has since ramped up its uranium enrichment, prompting concerns that it may be developing nuclear weapons. However, Tehran has consistently denied pursuing a nuclear arsenal, emphasizing the peaceful nature of its program.
The situation remains volatile, with Khamenei reiterating his opposition to negotiations with the US, calling the idea “unwise”.
The US has estimated that Iran could produce a nuclear weapon within weeks if it chose to do so, adding to the urgency of the situation.
