The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations that Senate President Godswill Akpabio orchestrated a smear campaign against former Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The APC group stated that Akpabio had no involvement in Emmanuel’s invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the subsequent media reports.
The National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Debo Ologunagba, had accused Akpabio of orchestrating the smear campaign.
However, the APC group countered that Ologunagba’s allegations were baseless and malicious, and that the PDP government in Akwa Ibom State was behind the accusations.
The APC group emphasized that Akpabio, as Senate President, is focused on overseeing the National Assembly and has no interest in engaging with trivial matters.
They also challenged Ologunagba to deny that Emmanuel was indeed invited by the EFCC, and questioned whether Akpabio was also responsible for the investigation and prosecution of other former governors by the EFCC.
