The Federal Government has pledged to implement the End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Regulation, aiming to transform waste into economic opportunities and protect the environment.
Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Sen. John Enoh, made this commitment at a stakeholders’ engagement in Lagos on Wednesday, organized by the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC).
The regulation seeks to create a multi-billion-dollar industry from waste, generating employment and economic growth.
With Nigeria importing 500,000 vehicles annually, the ELV regulation aims to mitigate environmental hazards and promote a circular economy.
Experts, including Dr Fyneray Mbata, Mr Idowu Oresanya, Dr Chimere May, and Dr Kemjika Ajoku presented papers on the environmental impact of ELVs and the potential for scrap industry transformation.
NADDC Director-General Joseph Osanipin emphasized the significance of the ELV regulation, anticipating the creation of 40,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The implementation of the ELV regulation is expected to promote a cleaner, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria, improving public health and overall well-being.
