Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio has vehemently denied the sexual harassment allegations leveled against him by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Akpabio, in response to the petition tendered before the Red Chamber on Wednesday by Natasha, claimed to have never sexually harassed any woman in his life.
In his response to the petition presented before the Senate, Akpabio claimed to have never sexually harassed any woman in his life attributing his respect for women to his upbringing by his late mother.
He held that he was well groomed by his late mother and have highest regards for women.
“I would like to state clearly that at no time did I ever attempt any sexual harassment to the said distinguished Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan or any other woman for that matter.
“I and my siblings were raised very well by my late single mother who died in the year 2000.
“Through very difficult times, I therefore have the highest regards for women. Even after her demise, I still cry still today.” Akpabio said.
Akpabio emphasized his commitment to gender equality, highlighting his achievements as Akwa-Ibom state governor, where he was awarded the most gender-friendly governor in Nigeria.
He also mentioned being the father of four daughters, stating that he has never and will never harass any woman.
The Senate President urged the public, especially social media users, to await the court’s decision before making any judgments on the allegations.
Subsequently, this development has sparked a national debate on gender equality, sexual harassment, and the integrity of the Senate.
