The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has commended the members of the State House of Assembly for resolving the Speakership crisis.
In a statement, Lagos APC spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, described the resolution as a victory for democracy, describing the lawmakers for prioritizing collective goals over personal interests.
The crisis began when Mudashiru Obasa was impeached on January 13th over allegations of abuse of office and misconduct. However, following interventions by the APC, the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), and a high-powered committee, Obasa was reinstated as Speaker on Monday.
Oladejo emphasized that the resolution demonstrates the sophistication of Lagos politics and the effectiveness of the APC’s conflict resolution mechanism.
He also noted that the party played an advisory role, with final decisions resting with the House of Assembly.
Also, there are reports that President Bola Tinubu and top APC leaders had intervened in the crisis, leading to a resolution that would see Obasa resign rather than be formally ousted.
Additionally, there are plans to have the Lagos West senatorial district produce the new Speaker, in order to balance power among the three senatorial districts.
