The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has strongly condemned plans to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, warning that such a move would destabilize the state and undermine the mandate given to elected officials.
According to Comrade Prince Sukubo, Chairman of the IYC’s Eastern Zone, the recent Supreme Court rulings have been “weaponized” by individuals who don’t have the state’s best interests at heart.
Sukubo emphasized that any attempt to impeach Fubara would be an attack on the state’s elected leadership and an affront to the will of the people.
The IYC has pledged to protect the state’s interests and defend the people’s rights to choose their elected officials.
Sukubo also called on President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, to intervene and stop the ongoing “madness” that threatens to plunge Rivers State into crisis.
The IYC’s stance is not isolated, as the Coalition of Democratic Vanguard has also condemned any attempts to impeach Governor Fubara, emphasizing that such moves would undermine the democratic process in the state.
