Mudashiru Obasa has made a dramatic comeback as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following Mojisola Meranda’s resignation from the position.
Obasa had been removed earlier, but his return was facilitated by a strategic meeting involving key stakeholders, including the Lagos State Attorney General and the APC Chairman.
Meranda, who served as Speaker for just 49 days, presided over her last plenary session, which saw her return to her former position as Deputy Speaker.
The development comes after the disbandment of the Bisi Akande committee, which was set up to resolve the crisis.
Sources close to the Presidency indicate that overtures were made to lawmakers to support Obasa’s return, and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) were asked to rein in anti-Obasa lawmakers.
If these efforts fail, the Presidency and party leaders may allow the courts to resolve the crisis.
Obasa had challenged his removal in court, with the hearing adjourned to March 7.
