The alternative bridge in Oshodi, Lagos State, was packed with pedestrians on Monday, March 3, due to the closure of the main pedestrian bridge connecting Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3.
This closure, which occurred in January, was prompted by safety concerns and alarms raised over the bridge’s structural integrity.
The Lagos State Government had ordered the immediate closure, citing the need for a comprehensive structural integrity assessment to determine whether the bridge requires repairs or reconstruction.
Additionally, the government has been arresting individuals who cross highways at points with pedestrian bridges, further contributing to the surge in usage of the alternative bridge.
Pedestrians have taken to social media to express concerns about their safety and increased chances of theft, while also pleading with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to expedite the repair of the main bridge. The Lagos State Government has yet to respond to these concerns.
