LASU Advises New Students To Shun HookUp

LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello,

The Lagos State University (LASU) has advised its new students, especially females, against indulging in prostitution popularly known as ‘hookup’.

The LASU Chief Security Coordinator, CSP Oluwole Ojo (rtd), gave the warning in a lecture at the institution’s orientation ceremony for the 2024 Modular Year Sandwich Degree Programme students.

The event was held at the university’s main campus in the Ojo area of Lagos on Friday, February 28, 2025.

The chief security coordinator said results of such a lifestyle were always undesirable.

He urged the students to face their studies to be able to graduate with good grades.

Ojo said: “You will find out that those who engage in hookup usually end up dead if care is not taken. I advise you to desist from it.

“We have CCTV cameras everywhere in the school  for your safety and the safety of  the staff and everyone that comes and goes out of the school.”

Ojo also advised the students to report any threats to the appropriate authorities for necessary actions.

Speaking at the event, the LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello,  congratulated the students for their admissions.

Olatunji-Bello, who was represented by LASU Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo, said: “Your choice to enrol into our sandwich degree programme is a clear indication of your belief in our capacity to provide qualitative education for you.

“I want to assure you that you have taken a decision that you will never regret.

“To this end, I advise you to embrace self-discipline. Take advantage of all  the opportunities that the university provided for you to succeed.”

The VC also urged the students to select their friends carefully, saying: “Bad friends destroy good habits.

“Also, shun deviant behaviours that could truncate your academic career.”

She stated that the university has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, corruption, and hooliganism, adding that those found engaging in them would face disciplinary actions.

“As you embark in this new chapter of your life, I encourage you to set goals, stay focused, and never lose sight of your dreams,” the Vice-Chancellor added.
