Former House Reps Member, Usman Okai, Arrested By DSS Operatives

A former House of Representatives member, Usman Okai, was reportedly taken from his residence on Wednesday by security operatives believed to be from the Department of State Service (DSS).

The reason for his arrest is currently unknown.

Via a viral on social media, the security operatives stormed the Abuja residence of the ex-lawmaker in convoy.

In a swift operation which occurred within two minutes, the operatives dragged the protesting Okai out of his apartment as his family helplessly watch on in shock.

Reacting to the arrest in a post on his X handle, Sowore alleged that ex-Kogi lawmaker was arrested for expressing views against Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State.

He accused the DSS of abducting and dehumanizing Okai.

“Imagine how these lawless @OfficialDSSNG mercenaries are abducting, torturing, and dehumanizing a Nigerian citizen, @Austinokai just because he expresses himself against illegitimate Gov. Ododo of Kogi State. #RevolutionNow #FreeAustinOkaiNow

“Lawless @OfficialDSSNG at it again. They must release @Austinokai immediately, with no room for govt security agencies acting as mercenary for corrupt, unscrupulous and illegitimate political hacks such as Ododo, Yahaya Bello and co! #FreeAustinOkaiNow.” Sowore wrote.

Reportedly, Okai has been very vocal against the alleged shortcomings of Ododo’s administration.

He had recently charged Ododo to curb what he described as the “unchecked and excessive powers” of the state’s Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko.

Okai accused the accountant general of overstepping her constitutional role, alleging financial mismanagement and undue interference in governance.

He said the accountant generals “cabal has taken over” Ododo’s administration.

However, the cause of his arrest remains unknown as at the time of filing this report.
