The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being anti-worker due to its directive to local government workers to resume work or face termination.
This directive was issued by reinstated local government council officials, who had been previously sacked.
The PDP in a statement issued by its Media Director, Oladele Bamiji on Tuesday, disclosed the threat as mere harassment and the party’s penchant for lawlessness.
“The copy and paste threat by the sacked chairmen, who have reduced themselves to hopeless tools of perdition in the hands of their demonic grandfathers in the Apc, have once again brought to question, why the Apc, right from the days of their progenitors, decided to always work at cross purposes with the wellbeing and happiness of the public workers”
He also described organized Labour as indispensable partners in nation-building and economic well-being of a state like Osun, and without doubt, must never be treated like some unfortunate slaves, who could be ordered around by some angry infants, to validate evil machinations against the state.
He then urged the state government through the local government service commission to protect the state workers in the local councils and insulate them against any unwarranted threats, especially now that the APC and its ignorant ball boys have resorted to open and unbridled death threats against the innocent workers, whose only sin to APC, is their resolve to protect themselves from the cross-fire danger of violence orchestrated by troubled opposition by withdrawing their services.
The PDP described this move as harassment and lawlessness, emphasizing the importance of treating organized labor with respect and dignity.
In response, the APC denied these allegations, claiming that the PDP is encouraging workers to disobey the rule of law.
A former lawmaker, Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has called on the federal government to address the illegality of holding elections despite a Court of Appeal judgment.
I want to appeal to the federal government to start releasing the monthly allocation to the APC reinstated council chairmen in the state as from this month.
“The chairmen were unable to work since 2022 when they were sacked, but now that the Court of Appeal have reinstated them, the allocation should be released to them. This is the time for people at the grassroots to feel the impact of government which had been neglected since 2022.
“I want to also commend the Inspection-General of Police for ensuring peace in the state and the way he approached the security challenges professionally,” he added.
He urged the government to release allocations to the reinstated council officials rather than the illegally inaugurated ones.
Notably this development highlights the ongoing tensions between the PDP and APC in Osun State, with each party accusing the other of wrongdoing and undermining the rule of law.
