Nigeria’s Agricultural Revolution Gets Boost As VP Shettima Reaffirms Commitment

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to an agricultural revolution in Nigeria.

Speaking during an assessment tour of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Oyo State, Shettima emphasized the crucial role of research institutions like IITA in achieving food security.

Shettima expressed confidence in IITA’s expertise, capacity, and technological innovations to harness Nigeria’s agricultural potential.

He noted that self-reliance in agriculture is now a necessity, especially given the withdrawal of specialized grants previously allocated to the health and agricultural sectors.

The Vice President also highlighted the government’s collaboration with IITA, which aligns with its mission to promote practical research, technological advancements, and local impact in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

This partnership aims to improve climate-resilient seeds and agricultural technologies, increase farmers’ access to high-yield seeds, and enhance agricultural productivity.

Furthermore, initiatives spearheaded by IITA includes Climate-Resilient Seeds, Agricultural Technologies, Regional Hub for Fertilizer and Soil Health, Partnership with PFSCU.

These initiatives demonstrate IITA’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s agricultural development and food security agenda.

The government’s collaboration with IITA marks a new phase in agricultural development under the Tinubu administration.
