French President Emmanuel Macron is set to meet with US President Donald Trump on Monday in Washington, and he plans to urge Trump to reconsider imposing new tariffs on allied countries.
Macron believes that allies shouldn’t “make each other suffer with tariffs” and hopes to calm the situation down.
Trump’s recent tariffs have sparked protests from Canada, Mexico, the EU, and others.
Macron is particularly concerned about the potential impact on France’s agriculture sector, which is a significant export business.
Moreso, Macron’s message to Trump is clear: “We need to solve the problem with Ukraine. We need to resolve the situation in the Middle East. We have competition between the USA and China. My first question to America is: is the European Union your primary problem? No, I don’t think so”.
